Posted by Frank James at 9:15 am CDT

The White House has announced that President Bush will use his father's Kennebunkport compound to host Russian President Vladimir Putin in early July.

Here's the White House announcement:

President Bush will welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin to former President George H. W. Bush’s home in Kennebunkport, Maine on July 1 and 2, 2007. The President looks forward to the visit as part of the intensive bilateral dialogue with President Putin. Cooperation between the United States and Russia is important in solving regional conflicts, stopping the spread of weapons of mass destruction, and combating terrorism and extremism. The Presidents will discuss a wide range of issues, including Iran, civil nuclear cooperation, and missile defense.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was just in Russia where she apparently persuaded Putin to stop likening the U.S. government's foreign policy to Nazi Germany's. It's hard to invite someone over to your father's seaside house when he's comparing you to ***.

But there's still a lot of disagreement between the leaders of the one remaining superpower and the former superpower, especially over U.S. plans to deploy missile-defense systems in Europe, ostensibly to protect against rogue states. The Russians have called the move destabilizing and provocative and have vowed not to sit idly by.

So Bush's discussions with the former KGB official could be as bracing as cold spray from the northern Atlantic Ocean and perhaps as rocky as the Maine coast.

The target of these improvements is Google’s news service which will implement a solution for entry classification that will take into account the quality, sources, and credibility of the news.
The database containing all the information and the sorting criteria of the news will compare different variables: the size of the news, the number of employees of

the publication or the media trust and the traffic generated by a certain page.

Currently, Google News is offering thousands of results with news sorted according to the relevance of the key words supplied by the user. This criterion is completed by placing the most recent news at the top of the list. The system proposed by Google will give priority to the sources with the highest credibility and traffic on their site, like BBC, CNN or Associated Press, granting these sources the rightful importance.

Until now, if news published by an almost unknown source had contained several times the keyword typed in by the user, that source would have been placed ahead of renowned publications.

Google has already requested a patent for this system of classification, the company trying in this way to promote the sources with a bigger audience.

However, Google refrained from giving other details on how the search engine will sort the prestigious sites, if the traffic will be the only criterion or what other criteria favor a source over another.

Google News Searches

Google has filed a patent that could give the search service more effectiveness in refining its news searches. Rather than rank news items by their relevance, Google might begin sorting them according to the quality of the news source.

The patent would establish a system that sets several criteria for news-source credibility and track record, according to news reports.

About Google

Google is a huge company that has taken over the search engine market.
